Fridge of Inspiration
I know, it's been woefully long since I've posted, but I've been WRITING! And I know it's better for all concerned if I write the DB (aka damned book) than write on this blog.
But I had to post because a writer friend sent me this wonderful picture of her Fridge of Inspiration. And my book cover is on it! Thanks so much, Tracey O--you made my day. Tracey is blitzing contests and has landed a fab agent, so it will be her cover on that fridge in no time.
You'll see that Anna Campbell and Denise Rossetti are also represented. What can I say? Tracey has good taste.*g*
At the Romance Writers of Australia conference, we were privileged enough to hear a plenary talk from Anne Stuart (who is the most wonderful writer and human being!) and she talked about having an altar on which she puts all sorts of inspirational bits and pieces. In my writing space, I have Tigger to remind me to be positive(thanks Denise!) my creativity crystal (a gift from Yas) and a plaque awarding Scandal's Daughter 'Best of the Best' in a contest, as well as a collage for the story I'm working on now.
What do you keep near you for inspiration?

Christine, isn't Tracey's fridge of inspiration, well, INSPIRING? She sent me the picture too and I just love it. As you say, not long till she'll have her own cover up there too! She's going so well.
I have a noticeboard stuck in front of my computer that's full of inspiration. Messy inspiration, but inspiration nonetheless. The problem is I've recently moved houses and I've now got the noticeboard from the old place to find room for too and they're both so INSPIRING! On my noticeboard, I have a lot of postcards of beautiful places and lovely cards and my GH finalist and first sale pink ribbons from Atlanta. And a plastic ring of fire medallion which Anne Stuart and Anne Gracie gave me in Sydney because I'd been through a baptism of fire with all the controversy over Claiming the Courtesan. And a couple of notes from people who read my books and loved them (always inspiring!). And my Banditas black mask. Man, I think I should blog some time about my board of inspiration. Clearly, there's material! Great question! And good luck with finishing the DB. Believe me, you've got a fan sitting in my chair right now who wants to get her hands on book two!
Anna x
Thanks, Anna! I'd love to see your noticeboards of inspiration. You need to get that digital camera so you can post a photo!
I'm quite a visual person, so these things help me. I'd never collaged before, but I did it for the book I'm working on now. The pictures really detail the flow of the story, and remind me how the emotion and relationship between the characters should be building as I write. So, it's been a great exercise. If you're visual, too, you might consider it for your next book. I think I know who the place-marker for yoeur hero might be!
Thanks Christine :very big Kiss: - you inspire me so.
And my fridge is a real inspiration to me - I touch the piccies as I go past sometimes. Christine I love your cover not only is it inspiring - but has a calming quality too.
Anna - your board of inspiration sounds fantastic - I'm going to look for more things to put on my fridge.
And book no. two wow - I can't wait for book no. 1 :o) So I'm with Anna get going and finish the DB.
Tracey, great to see you! I agree, Scandal's Daughter has a very tranquil scene.
Oh, and I missed Keri Arthur's cover, which I just noticed when I looked again.
Keep up the great work, Tracey! I'll post again here when you make your sale.
Off to finish the DB!
Actually, Christine, with this book, I think you might actually be wrong about who looks like my hero! He's actually a Bryan Ferry type. You know, louche and sophisticated and cynical with that sexy heavy-lidded look in his eyes. Ooh, Mamma! Let's stick together...
So it's not Cary Grant? Well, BF is certainly sexier.
Ooh, Bryan Ferry! Slave to Love...ahhh.
Ahem, sorry, just having a moment there.
Actually, my mother in law has a wicked sense of humour, and on her fridge there was a Far Side cartoon, with Bryan Furry (a dog) singing 'Let's Stink Together'. I never looked at Roxy Music quite the same way after that.
NOOOOOOO!!!!! And I have to write a naughty bit after reading that?!!! AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
I keep a note a friend posted on HisFic critique about the book i was working on that was very complementary, and my goal list so I remember where I'm going. And a small little pen sketch of a revolver I did at work one day while working on War Wounds all those many years ago.
